ICT Reflection

My goal is to increase my ICT skills which will be an ongoing journey through the rest of my teaching career. These skills will be of benefit to my future students as they will enable me to plan engaging lessons that will motivate the students to participate and assist them in achieving successful learning outcomes.

After reading a variety of journal articles I learnt that multiliteracies are an important part of today’s education. It was interesting to see that many of the authors referred to the New London Group as being influential in changing the direction of multiliteracies. A lot of reference was made to multiliteracies relating to the diversity of the students within the classrooms and the inclusion of technology in learning.

When completing this task I found it difficult to allocate time to read and analyse all of the journal articles. My ICT skills are reasonably proficient when completing assessment tasks and research, however, I had difficulty with creating my website. This took some time to work out each component of the website and trying to arrange all of the links and buttons to my satisfaction. To overcome this I had to spend a lot of time rearranging and googling ‘how to’ instruction. Even though I did face minor difficulties with this task I would still attempt new things as a way of expanding my skills and knowledge.

This task has given me additional ICT skills that I can use in the future for planning and preparing lessons. The information I have learnt throughout this task has demonstrated the importance of ICTs and multiliteracies in the classroom for today’s students. On conclusion of the task I have become a more informed preservice educator with a broader knowledge of integrating ICTs into early childhood education.
